Rory McIlroy starts his PGA Tour season with a commanding two-shot victory at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The Northern Irishman carded a final round of 66 to finish at 21 under par, securing his 27th PGA Tour win and his first at Pebble Beach.

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy made a triumphant return to the PGA Tour, claiming a convincing two-shot victory at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am . The 35-year-old golfer showcased his exceptional skills, carding a final round of six-under 66 to secure a winning total of 21 under par. This marked his 27th victory on the PGA Tour and his inaugural triumph at the iconic California course. McIlroy began the day trailing Austria's Sepp Straka by a single stroke.

However, a crucial eagle on the par-five 14th propelled him three strokes clear of Ireland's Shane Lowry, who emerged as his closest contender. 'Knowing today was going to be tough and exciting, with so many players in contention, was key,' stated McIlroy. Lowry, after a challenging start, staged a remarkable comeback to challenge McIlroy throughout the round, ultimately finishing solo second with a commendable final round of 68. Both McIlroy and Lowry achieved the feat of a hole-in-one during their initial rounds but encountered setbacks in the second round with scores of 70 each. They rallied back during Saturday's third round, both firing impressive rounds of 65 to reach 15 under par.On Sunday, McIlroy's lone bogey came at the eighth hole. However, he regained momentum with birdies at the 10th and 12th, ultimately seizing control with a brilliant eagle on the 14th. This eagle, set up by a powerful drive and a well-executed approach shot to 26 feet, proved decisive. After battling through a one-over outward nine of 37, 2019 Open champion Lowry surged ahead with birdies at the 11th, 12th, 14th, and 16th, keeping the pressure on McIlroy. However, his hopes were dashed with a missed birdie putt on the 17th. 'Several scenarios were running through my mind. I even considered that if Shane had made birdie at 17, a three-shot deficit on 18 compared to two would have changed things,' added McIlroy. England's Justin Rose, the 2023 champion of this event, finished on 18 under par thanks to a remarkable eagle on the last hole. Russell Henley and Cam Davis tied for fifth place with a score of 17 under, while Austria's Straka struggled on the final day and ended on 16 under. World number one Scottie Scheffler, making his first PGA Tour appearance of the season after recovering from a hand injury, recorded another top-10 finish, concluding on 15 under par
