Rory McIlroy's triumph at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, his 27th PGA Tour win, has fueled Billy Horschel's belief that McIlroy is poised for a historic season. Despite ending last year without a major title, McIlroy's determination shines through in his latest victory, leaving fans and fellow golfers eager to witness what he accomplishes next.
Billy Horschel's prediction that Rory McIlroy would begin the new season with a flourish has proven accurate following McIlroy's impressive victory at Pebble Beach. Despite securing five victories last year, including two on the PGA Tour, McIlroy ended the season without a major title, narrowly missing out at both the US Open and the Dubai Invitational.
The Northern Irishman's 11-year wait for a major seemed to ignite his determination as he secured a two-shot victory at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, notching up his 27th PGA Tour win. Horschel had anticipated this triumph for McIlroy, suggesting that last year's near misses would only motivate him further. In October, the American golfer remarked: 'Looking ahead I do believe something great is going to happen to Rory. The way Rory's handled this year and for not cracking following those like Bryson who got in his way at the US Open, and then what unfolded for him at the Irish Open and then the week later at Wentworth,' he continued. 'It's why I feel next year (2025) could be a really incredible year for Rory,' reports the Irish Mirror. With the Masters still out of reach, Horschel remains optimistic that McIlroy will round off his collection of major titles. 'I hope so for Rory's sake,' he added. 'I know too well no-one deserves anything in this game and you must deserve it but you look at what Rory has done in the game of golf, he deserves to win golf's Grand Slam.','Of course, you could say the same about Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson and the likes of Phil Mickelson, I just feel that it would be great to see someone like Rory achieve the feat. I've seen Tiger achieve such a milestone, but then to have someone that I know as well and as admire like Rory would be unbelievable.' Upon reflection on his variable results, McIlroy himself expressed, 'It's hard because on one hand, I sit here and I'm proud of what I've done, but then on the other hand I sit here and I am disappointed because of the ones I've let get away.' He discussed what led to the outcomes, 'I'd say it was a combination of everything. I wouldn't say it's specifically the putts. I wouldn't say it's specifically the club choices - I think it's a combination.
