MELAKA: Macaques at Tanjung Bidara beachfront in Masjid Tanah here seem to have taken over a children's playground at the popular seaside destination.

Melaka agriculture, agro-based, entrepreneur development and cooperative committee chairman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee said the troop of monkeys had learnt to use the slides and swings during the movement control order period when there were very few visitors to the beach."These primates were probably aping the children after watching them play during peak period, ” he said on Tuesday .

He added that the monkeys had been attracting people to the beachfront, some of whom came just to watch their antics at the playground. The Melaka Wildlife and National Parks Department would not trap the primates as long as there was no report of attacks at the site, he said.
