The school system plans to complete training on weapons detection system tomorrow.

) -Last month, the Mobile County Public School System announced upgraded security plans to hopefully avoid incidents like the Leflore High School shooting in January. One of the biggest pieces of the plan is the Evolv weapons detection system which the school system says are in phase two of the installation process.

Director of Safety and Security Andy Gatewood says some of the bigger schools will have more than one of the Evolv systems. So far, he says they’ve trained around 90 principals and assistant principals on the new machines. Gatewood says they’ve also been finalizing plans for collecting student’s cell phones across all schools. He says some principals have decided to use a traditional lock box while many of them prefer to use Yondr pouches that will be magnetically sealed until they’re scanned with a device at the end of the day.
