There have already been 90,000 reported cases in Europe alone this year.
In the highest figures in over a decade 364,808 measles cases were reported around the world, compared to 129,239 cases during the first seven months of last year.The WHO also stated that there have been more cases of measles in Europe so far this year than in the entirety of 2018, with 90,000 cases registered already.Beyond Europe, cases of the illness continue to grow in countries that traditionally have low numbers.
Auckland, New Zealand, has also seen a dramatic increase in measles, with 27 new cases confirmed in the space of one day this week.
