Some appear to have GPS trackers
A Co-op in a Nottingham suburb has started putting packaged meat in security boxes. Items worth as little as £3.75 has been pictured in sealed plastic containers at the Co-op in Woodborough Road, Mapperley.
The boxes, which are fitted with security tags, display 'caution' messages that tell customers the items must be removed at the checkout. They also appear to be fitted with GPS trackers. The individually imprisoned meat ranges in price from £8.50 to £3.75. Co-op said the measures were part of a "small-scale trial of packaging for higher value products".It added that individual store managers are empowered to select products that might be prone to theft. Nottinghamshire Live has previously reported on a Co-op in West Bridgford that had implemented the same measures.
The business said at the time that it was "providing a further deterrent if a store locally experiences shoplifting issues".
