Top car mechanic Scotty Kilmer has issued a warning that senior drivers who pose a danger to themselves and others should 'stop driving'. Kilmer cited instances of older drivers 'running into things' as a sign they need to surrender their licenses. While there's no mandatory retirement age for drivers in the UK, the DVLA emphasizes that drivers unfit to drive may have their licenses revoked.

A top car mechanic has issued a warning that senior motorists should "stop driving" due to serious safety concerns. Notable auto expert and mechanic, Scotty Kilmer, emphasised that certain elderly drivers posed a "danger" to themselves as well as to others, with the DVLA adding if "unfit" you will lose your licence.

He recounted how the former owner's daughter felt compelled to remove the car from his possession for his own wellbeing, reports the Express.. Scotty candidly shared on his YouTube channel: "The guy's daughter had to finally take the car away from him because he wasn't able to drive any more." He strongly advised: "If you're a danger to yourself and others and you start running into things all the time, it's time to stop driving." In the UK, older drivers aren't forced to give up their licences at any specific age so long as they remain in good health and fit to drive. However, GOV.UK says drivers can voluntarily give up their driving licence if they have a medical condition or have been advised by a doctor.

The DVLA reminds drivers: "Licences are normally valid until 70 years of age unless restricted to a shorter duration for medical reasons. There is no upper age limit to licensing, but after 70 renewal is required every 3 years."
