Officer Jacob Derbin was shot and killed on May 11.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner announced Tuesday the suspect accused of murdering Euclid Police Officer Jacob Derbin died from a self-inflected gunshot wound to the head.
Euclid Police Captain Mitch Houser said Vaughn fatally shot Officer Derbin just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 11.Captain Houser said the mother of Vaughn’s child called police because she was afraid Vaughn was going to hurt her and her mother.When officers went to check the backyard, Vaughn ambushed them and opened fired, striking Officer Derbin, said Captain Houser.Vaughn fled on foot and was tracked down at a Shaker Heights apartment complex on Sunday.
Vaughn had a violent criminal history and was posting on his social media about the shooting Saturday night and through the day Sunday.
