Medway Council in Kent is scrambling to cut down on an anticipated £17 million overspend this year, as it stares down a potential future bankruptcy.

The popular Dickensian Christmas Festival will still be held in Rochester on the first weekend in December, alongside other events including character meet-and-greets and Chatham’s annual pantomime. Rochester’s Christmas market and parade will still be going ahead Council leader Vince Maple encouraged people to shop local this year Mr Maple said local ward councillors would also be able to fund a Christmas tree for each town in the area.
