Now based in Nashville, Catie Offerman, is 'doing something right' as she is set to open for King George on Saturday in College Station.
Catie Offerman is still waiting for the chance to explain herself to George Strait . She may get her chance this weekend when she opens for King George on Saturday at Kyle Field in College Station . They met 15 years ago at a tiny boutique hair salon in San Antonio owned by a mutual friend. Back then, Offerman was a homeschooled teenage fiddle player whose parents drove her to gigs. At the salon, Strait had just gotten his hair cut.
George Strait releases first single from new album The salon owner eventually introduced them. Strait was wearing a Hawaiian shirt, shorts and boat shoes. Casual George. “I remember being in that moment, being like, ‘I have no choice, I have to pull it together. I’ve got to keep eye contact in this bonnet, in this cape with this stuff oozing over my face.’ ” It was like a dream. They talked about Western swing music. She gave him a copy of her self-produced CD.
Tickets to Strait concert selling at record pace Offerman lives in Nashville, but she hasn’t forgotten her Texas influences. She grew up playing polka music at Wurstfest. “I did the whole sauerkraut and bratwurst thing for years,” she said. These days, her rich voice and breezy songs come gift-wrapped in acoustic guitars and just the right touches of fiddle, mandolin, steel guitar and Texas twang. She is a classically trained musician who wants to make honest music, Offerman said.
