Race2Dinner challenges white women to acknowledge their privilege
The experience of dining out with two women telling you as you chat over your espresso martini exactly how and why you’re being racist may not seem like everyone’s idea of fun. However, privileged white women across America have been paying Regina Jackson and Saira Rao to do exactly that since 2019.
But while the tables may be elegantly dressed and the guests are wearing their finest dinner attire, the discussion round the table is much less polite and refined. “Another case that really stands out was a woman who was chatting with other school parents including an Asian lady. As soon as the Asian lady left, the other mums started bad-mouthing a certain high school saying the Asians had ruined it. The woman at our dinner party said she’d felt bad about it for months, so we said, 'Why don’t you do something then?’ The next day she emailed the other parents about their discriminatory beliefs and they all panicked.

Despite some of the comments and behaviour at the dinners, such as attendees admitting to staying silent when friends are racist and screaming that they’re not racist themselves, Regina says she’s “unshockable”.
