Fallon Sherrock narrowly missed the opportunity to face Luke Littler in the second round of the PDC World Championship. Ryan Meikle from Ipswich secured his spot against the 17-year-old prodigy after a thrilling match that went the full distance. Meikle won 3-2 against Sherrock on Tuesday, despite the 30-year-old making history in 2019 as the first woman to win a game at the World Championship.
Sherrock won the first and fourth sets, but Meikle ultimately prevailed in a final set described as a 'battle of wills'. Sherrock's partner, Cameron Menzies, also suffered defeat earlier in the tournament. The Scottish player lost 3-1 to Leonard Gates of the USA, visibly emotional during the match. After his victory, Meikle expressed his disbelief, stating that the crowd support for Sherrock was overwhelming. He also said he felt lucky to come through the match and is excited to play Luke Littler in the next round.
