Sally Capp, who was elected in 2018, will not be on the next ballot in October this year.
Capp, who was elected in 2018, announced "with mixed emotions" this morning that she would not contest the October 2024 local government elections, but step down mid-year instead."I have given everything to this role.
"I have decided that at 56, having spent my 50s so far at Town Hall, it's time for me to seek new opportunities to propel me into my next decade."Capp, a political independent, is a former solicitor, the first woman appointed as Victoria's agent-general in London, and was a director of the Collingwood Football Club until 2009.
"I know hardship is still a reality for many business owners and residents, but the upward trajectory is undeniable. We are once again the driver of Victoria's economy and a major contributor on the national stage.Capp said the COVID-19 pandemic was one of the biggest challenges of her term. Capp highlighted projects such as the Queen Victoria Market precinct renewal, the Power Melbourne battery scheme, and the Make Room accommodation development as some of the highlights of her term.
