A memorial service held in honour of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II following her death on Thursday has left viewers in tears as the new national anthem was sung for the first time

A special memorial service held in honour of Queen Elizabeth II following her death has left viewers around the world in tears as mourners gathered to sing the new national anthem for the first time.

Some 2,000 members of the public attended the 6pm service after securing a limited selection of wristbands, along with Prime Minister Liz Truss, while millions of others tuned in to a live broadcast of the service that touched the hearts of so many. Several of the assembled members of the public at the service could be seen to appear emotional during the televised broadcast, while countless others took to social media to share their feelings at such a historic moment.

Another viewer also wrote: “Hearing our new national anthem felt a bit strange. Not sure how to describe it, but it was a bit complicated and odd as a moment.”
