Team knows it was doomed by lackadaisical start to 2023, has worked to try to make sure that doesn't happen again
The Padres’ chartered airliner touched down at Incheon International Airport shortly before 1:30 a.m. local time on Friday morning. The traveling party was through immigration and customs and the line of media waiting to document the Padres’ arrival about 45 minutes later, at their hotel by 3 o’clock and soon afterward were able to crawl into beds topped by pillows that had a brown interlocking “SD” monogrammed in the upper right-hand corner.
“You want to start fast,” Xander Bogaerts said. “It’s just like hitting. Sometimes, you start off hitting .400 in April and hit .210 in July. It’s a long season. It also can happen in April .210 and July .400. It would just be nice to start off faster.” Bogaerts was a member of the 2018 Red Sox, who began the season by losing twice in their first 19 games. The 11-12 stretch that followed was merely a blip. Boston went on to a 108-win season and World Series title.
