If you were looking to buy a new pair of shoes in the 1980s, you may have visited this shop in Watford High Street. The building it occupied replaced a key part of the history of the Watford Observer.has again teamed up with its friends at Watford Museum to look back at structures, objects or businesses from the town’s past that have either disappeared or been relocated and this week we look back at the history of 101 High Street.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “This photo was taken in the 1980's when 101 High Street was Manfield shoe shop. I believe at one stage Freeman Hardy & Willis had this shop but at the time of this photograph, they were on the other side of Loates Lane.“This modern-style building was built in the 1960s and replaced an older brick building that had been the home of the Watford Observer's offices.
