Trial begins into alleged robbery of brothers of England stars Rashford and Alexander-Arnold and three others at Moss Side café
The brothers of England footballers Trent Alexander-Arnold and Marcus Rashford were violently attacked and robbed of a £70,000 car and watches in a Moss Side café, a trial has been told. Three masked men burst into Littlerock Café on Princess Road where they were eating breakfast, hitting them with a baseball bat and a sawn-off shotgun and threatening them with a machete demanding their watches.
All three have pleaded not guilty to five counts of robbery, one count of being in possession of a double barrelled shotgun while committing an offence, and counts of being in possession of a bladed article, namely a machete, and having an offensive weapon, a baseball bat. Mr Wyn Jones read statements from each of the victims who described being struck by weapons out of nowhere and fearing for their life. Dane was sat on a 'breakfast bar' with Tyler and Daniel when three men covered in black ran into the shop, he told the court. "It didn't immediately register what was happening but I felt a hit to the top of my head," the statement said. He says he 'curled up' under the bar before hearing shouts of "give us the watches".
The men shouted at Tyler to take his watch off but he was not wearing one. All his friends were on the ground at this point, Mr Wyn Jones said, and he started to feel pressured despite not having a watch. Tyler instead threw his car keys towards them which was subsequently stolen. A student who lives with her family in a house on Boland Drive provided a statement saying she was awoken by a 'commotion' around 11.15am where she heard male voices she did not recognise and people hiding items in the house. She heard a male say "they're all around the house now" which was referring to armed police which had arrived on Boland Drive.
