French MPs have called for the EU to take legal action over what it calls 'despicable' sewage dumping that could affect France's coastline
The Commission said it had not yet been in contact with London about the complaints. “We will take further the matter as appropriate,” Commission spokeswoman Dana Spinant said.
Ms Yon-Courtin said the dumping of sewage into the sea was a metaphor for Britain’s troubled state. “The treatment of marine waste reflects the image of the government,” she said. Ever since the UK left the EU in 2020, the British government has rejoiced in shaking off what ministers claim are burdensome Brussels regulations. However, these rules, including the 2006 Bathing Water Directive, have ensured that EU beaches and coastlines are some of the cleanest in the world.
