Fire crews were on the scene after a fire broke out on a platform
There were delays and cancellations on the Northern Line this afternoon after a fire broke out at Liverpool Central Station . Fire crews were called to the station on Ranelagh Street in Liverpool City Centre just after 2.30pm today, July 25, after reports of a fire on one of the platforms. The blaze was swiftly put out using CO2 extinguishers. Merseyrail services were severely disrupted as a result of the fire, and the Hunts Cross line was blocked, with disruption expected until 5.30pm.
'Once receiving confirmation that the railway line was isolated, firefighters extinguished the fire using CO2 extinguishers. One fire engine remained on scene to monitor temperature. The crew is currently preparing to leave the scene.' Passengers described crowded scenes at railway stations as rail services were cancelled and replacement bus services were brought in. Merseyrail have been approached for comment.
