Thousands of vehicles showed as not having insurance on database which links to police ANPR systems
Merseyside Police issued an update on the askMID issue after the car insurance database website suffered issues.
Drivers were confused as the site, which is used to compare insurance records with the DVLA, and links up to police ANPR technology which alerts officers if it identifies a supposedly uninsured car, incorrectly showed thousands of vehicles as not having active insurance policies. The people behind the site issued a message earlier today clarifying they had suffered a system issue on their website, but that the information held on the database was not believed to be affected. And Merseyside Police also offered reassurance to motorists in our region.READ MORE: Woman, 21, went silent after police asked what she had in her car
On Twitter, the police said: "In relation to the issue regarding the Vehicle Insurance database, this has no impact on the police systems. This is a national issue which will hopefully be resolved shortly. There are no concerns for insured vehicles."Earlier a spokesperson for the Motor Insurers' Bureau said: "We are aware of an issue with askMID showing vehicles as uninsured.
