Whether you prefer something sweet and tasty or flakey and savoury, you never have too far to travel to settle a craving. The past few years have seen numerous new businesses open which have gone on to become staples of their respective areas.
Chatwins took over from Ray’s Craft Bakery in 2022 and has established itself as a firm favourite on Allerton Road since. The only downside to Chatwins is its size. There are only three stools inside, meaning you probably won’t be able to sit down inside in busy periods and people watch on one of the city’s most thriving areas. But I think this minor inconvenience adds to the excitement of going there, and it’s more than worth it to get some of the freshest baked goods in the city.
Demand at Wild Loaf soared when it was featured on The Hairy Bikers Go West and it's not difficult to see why it caught the attention of the legendary TV chefs, Si King and the late, great Dave Myers. Nowhere makes cake better than Caz's Kitchen on St Johns Road, Waterloo. As an ex-pupil of one of these schools, a trip to Butler’s Bakery was always fitted at the start or end of the school day. Even now, after long leaving school, I still stand by the fact that they have the best cookies and sausage rolls.My biggest regret after moving to the suburbs was leaving Bon Bon behind. I'm not even a big savoury snack person but there's nowhere I'd rather shop if I need something, fresh, warm and tasty immediately.
