Nottingham was recently revealed as the worst place in the UK for cases of whopping cough
Parents have been urged to make sure children are up to date with vaccinations amid increasing cases of measles and whooping cough in Nottingham. Measles is a highly infectious viral illness that can sometimes lead to serious complications and can be fatal in very rare cases.
There may be a "whoop" sound when a person gasps for breath, but the NHS says some may not make this sound. During a Nottingham City Health and Wellbeing Board meeting on Wednesday , David Johns, deputy director of public health, said: "In January the UK Health Security declared a national measles incident due to the increasing number of cases across the country."In Nottingham city we are seeing a small increase in measles cases.
Cases continued to rise to 277 in February, 327 in March, 339 in April and there have been 133 so far in May. Around 10 per cent, 151 of a total 1,570 cases, were reported in the East Midlands.
