UPDATE: Met Office extends yellow thunderstorm weather warning to cover Preston, Blackburn and West Lancs
A thunderstorm warning that came into force this morning has now been extended to cover more of Lancashire - and will last until the evening.
The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms this morning. They predicted the unsettled weather would hit at 11.30am and last until 7pm tonight. The yellow weather warning covers eastern parts of Lancashire, including Clitheroe, Burnley, Rossendale and Pendle while areas of Cumbria such as Penrith, Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale could also be affected. Now, the Met Office has extended the warning to cover more of Lancashire, including Preston, Ormskirk and Blackburn.The map shows the thunderstorm will hit all of Lancashire apart from Lancaster and part of Blackpool.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Heavy showers will develop quite widely later this morning and afternoon, hail and lightning accompanying showers in some places. "Some of these showers will be slow-moving and 10 to 20 mm of rain is likely to fall in less than an hour in some places whilst a few spots could see as much as 20 to 50 mm of rain in 2 or 3 hours."The Met Office said 'heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to cause travel disruption and flooding.'
