The long-awaited summer hot weather could be over, for now at least, with temperatures set to drop over the weekend. Wednesday was the hottest day of the year so far, the Met Office have confirmed, with a temperature of 30.3 degrees Celsius recorded at London's Heathrow Airport.
Some areas of the region saw some light showers early this morning . And there is a chance of some further drizzle this afternoon, around 3pm,. and at around 6pm this evening, forecasters say.There will also be sunny spells however temperatures are expected to peak at around 20C. And it is likely to remain below 20C for all of Friday.
Saturday is likely to remain dry but cloudy, with again temperatures unlikely to pass 18C. And it this is expected to drop even further to a cool 16C on Sunday. After a sunny start it is set to become cloudy by the late morning. The Met Office say that from Monday: "The outlook period appears to be largely unsettled, with occasional bands of rain moving in from the west or northwest. There will be a good deal of dry, warm, and settled weather in between frontal systems, with the best conditions most likely in the south and east where winds will be lighter.
