A yellow warning is in place for the North West
The Met Office issued two “danger to life” warnings across England and Wales as the storm brings torrential rain and strong winds. Storm Ciaran is due to sweep across mainland Britain from 6pm tonight, bringing three inches of rain as well as destructive gales, with train services up and down the country issuing warnings not to travel.
The Met Office has announced a yellow warning for the North West of England as heavy rain associated with Storm Ciaran is likely to bring disruption. The map shows that Storm Ciaran is set to hit the Wirral peninsula in Neston.READ MORE: Met Office verdict amid reports snow is about to hit UK What to expect with Storm Ciaran: The Met Office said: “Periods of heavy rain, associated with Storm Ciarán, are expected to affect much of southern and western England and Wales from Wednesday evening and throughout Thursday. A further 20-30 mm is likely quite widely, but 40-60 mm may accumulate in a number of places, especially, but not exclusively, over higher ground.
“Upland areas of southwest England and Wales may see 80 mm of rain in a few locations with the potential for in excess of 100 mm in a few locations across north Wales.
