The Met Office has issued a warning of heavy showers and thunderstorms for the region today after record breaking temperatures scorched the country earlier this week. The yellow warning stretches from south London up as far as Hull, encompassing the whole of the East Midlands in the process.
Nottingham peaked at eyewatering temperatures on Monday and Tuesday, sparking fires and concerns for heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Tuesday, July 19, was officially the hottest day ever in Nottingham, peaking at 39.8C. Weather forecasters say: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms may bring disruption during Wednesday afternoon and evening". The warning is in place from 12noon on Wednesday, July 20, until 10pm.
Temperatures in Nottingham and the county should return to more tolerable peaks from now until the end of the week. Highs of 26C are expected on Wednesday, with lows of 17C expected. Thursday and Friday are forecast to be 21C and 20C respectively.
