It's hot... and it's getting hotter

Warm temperatures are forecast to remain in Lancashire for the rest of the week, but the mercury is likely to remain lower than recent sweltering conditions.

Mercury levels are forecast in the mid-to-high 20s for much of England over the next few days, with parts of Lancashire including Blackpool expected to reach a high of 27C today . Thursday is set to be slightly hotter with highs of 27C before dropping to 25C on Friday and Saturday, 24C on Sunday and then the low 20s from Monday. The BBC Weather forecast for the region shows more thunderstorms could arrive on Sunday and next Wednesday .

"Temperatures again warm and feeling humid overnight, and very warm or hot by day in between any showers. Further ahead, a continuing risk of heavy showers and thunderstorms at times in the south and west, whereas further north and east there should be some more reliable drier interludes, then perhaps becoming more generally a little more settled by the end of this period.

Met Office spokesman Stephen Dixon said: “The heat is set to drop slightly in coming days. London might not meet heatwave criteria, for example, but there’s a good deal of dry, fine, sunny weather to be had this week with temperatures remaining well above average.
