Visitors should pack waterproofs as there is expected to be rain throughout the weekend

Every year thousands of people gather for the annual Download Festival at Donington Park, and whilst the event often gets lucky with the sunshine, this year the forecast predicts heavy rain and overcast skies. Festivalgoers should make sure to pack some waterproofs and pitch their tents extra well this year to help protect themselves from the weather.

However, despite the possibility of dark skies, the festival itself will be anything but dull, with music from the likes of Fall Out Boy, Queens of the Stone Age and Avenged Sevenfold. Many visitors will start arriving on Wednesday, June 12, and Thursday, June 13, ahead of a weekend of great music. According to the Met Office, there will be a little bit of rain from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday, but most of the day will have sunny intervals. There will be light rain from 4pm on Thursday until 1am Friday morning.

On Friday, June 14, there will also be several hours of light rain from 7pm, but this will clear up around 1am on Saturday, June 15. There is then light rain expected from 1pm until 4pm, with heavier rain from 7pm. There will also be further rain from 4pm until 10pm on Sunday, June 16, as well as rain on Monday afternoon. Regarding the outlook for the East Midlands from Thursday to Saturday, the Met Office states: "Dry at first on Thursday before heavy rain and strong winds move in from the west. Breezy with showers on Friday and Saturday, heavy and perhaps thundery. Rather cool throughout."
