Temperatures could reach their highest yet this year, according to forecasters
The Met Office predicts the current heatwave will stay strong throughout the weekend for many parts of the UK.
It comes after the UK Health Security Agency issued an Amber Heat Health Alert for parts of the UK. This means those who are susceptible to health risks from the increased temperatures, such as the elderly and those with health conditions, should avoid the heat as much as possible. “An active tropical cyclone season in the North Atlantic has helped to amplify the pattern across the North Atlantic, pushing the jet stream well to the north of the UK, allowing some very warm air to be drawn north. It’s a marked contrast to the much of meteorological summer, when the UK was on the northern side of the jet stream with cooler air and more unsettled weather.
While many areas will remain very warm or hot until Saturday at the earliest, the heat will become more focused in southeastern areas on Sunday and Monday. There is also an increased risk of intense thundery and showery conditions.
