'Heavy and persistent' snow is to hit the UK over the coming days with weather alerts issued
Met Office weather maps have revealed the exact areas set to be hit by a blast of snow amid yellow weather alerts across the UK.
The first warning is in place for Monday . Snow is forecast across north Scotland, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth, Aberdeen and Inverness. The first snowfall is forecast from 12pm across parts of the Yorkshire Dales, Peak District and north Wales, Met Office maps show. At 3pm, heavy snowfall is then expected to hit parts of Merseyside, Greater Manchester, the Peak District and Sheffield, extending northwards to the Dales and parts of the Lake District. It is also expected to hit the lower Scottish Borders and parts of Northumberland, around the Hexham area.
