Overnight storms saw lightning strikes and flooding in some areas of the county
A Met Office weather warning for heavy rain today has been extended amid potential flooding in Nottinghamshire . Storms in parts of the county on Saturday evening saw many roads become unusable as lightning strikes were seen in some areas.
The Johnson Arms issued a warning to its punters thinking of heading for a pint via the path by the River Leen. A picture posted by the pub showed that the River Leen had burst its banks near the Queen's Medical Centre. The Met Office's yellow weather warning for heavy rain throughout Sunday has now been extended, covering all of Nottinghamshire. It started at midnight and will run until 11.59pm tomorrow evening. Ahead of an unsettled and wet day on Monday , this evening in particular is set to bring heavy rain to Nottinghamshire.
In its outlook for the region tonight, the Met Office says: "Showery rain, heavy at times, is expected to spread north and linger across the region for much of the night, along with extensive low cloud." It is set to be a much cooler day than Saturday, with a high of 18C predicted in Nottingham. The rain could begin at around 2pm, before the Met Office forecasts much heavier rain from around 7pm. The chance of rainfall increases from around 30% throughout much of the morning to 90% this evening.
