The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as 'strong and gusty' winds are expected to cause disruption in Nottingham. Nottingham and most of Nottinghamshire should prepare for potential problems caused by fast wind on Monday, March 13, the forecaster said.
In a statement, the Met Office said: "Strong and gusty southwesterly winds may lead to some disruption, particularly for prone high-sided vehicles." It outlined these conditions are predicted to last from 10am to 6pm. The weather service said some short-term loss of power and other services is possible. Delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely and damage to trees is also likely. It added some bus and train services would probably be affected, with some journeys taking longer. It is likely there will be delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.
The forecasters highlighted tips for those dealing with strong winds. It advised people to secure bins, plant pots, garden furniture, trampolines and sheds - as the winds could damage property or cause injury. Windy weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous, so the Met Office said drivers should plan their routes and pack for the worst with provisions. It added that people should try to stay indoors and avoid walking next to buildings or trees.
