The Met Office has warned that an 'Arctic blast' will sweep across the UK this week, causing temperatures to plummet below freezing and bringing the first snow of late 2024
Met Office forecasters are predicting the first snowfall of late 2024 as an incoming Arctic blast looks to drive temperatures below freezing. This autumn commenced with unseasonably warm and wet conditions, keeping temperatures around 20C amidst persistent showers. Over the past weekend, the blend of warmth and moisture gave rise to a severe storm system, unleashing intense rainfall with some areas receiving inches in mere hours amidst a backdrop of lightning and thunder.
A Met Office spokesperson revealed the chilly forecast and potential for wintry showers, especially in northern regions: "A cold front sweeping south will introduce Arctic air to the UK, resulting in below-average temperatures nationwide this week." Meanwhile, forecasters predict that the lowest temperatures in Wales will be around 3C. By Thursday, Scotland is expected to become even colder, with temperatures dropping to -2C in the chilliest areas, while Wales follows a similar pattern, seeing its temperatures drop to 0C.
