Parts of Yorkshire have been hit by thunderstorms over the weekend but more are on the way
Last weekend, there were thunderstorms in a number of areas across Yorkshire, with heavy rain also falling. This is expected to continue into this week, as more rainfall is expected.
Today, there will be some thundery and heavy showers, particularly around midday, but there may be more sun into the afternoon.The Met Office said: "Fairly cloudy through the morning, with increasingly widespread showers, some heavy and thundery by midday. Showers gradually becoming more isolated during the afternoon and turning increasingly sunny.
"Mainly light winds. Maximum temperature 17C." This pattern is expected to continue for the rest of the week, with heavy, thundery showers impacting much of the region. Temperatures are set to stay within normal levels for much of the week. The Met Office added: "A fine start Tuesday, but cloud and rain arriving during the day. Sunny intervals and scattered, heavy thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday. Rather breezy conditions expected Thursday. Temperatures near normal."In the longer term, the Met Office forecast for between May 31 and June 9 states there will be more showers for the foreseeable future.
"A few showers could still develop, particularly in the north, but for many it will be a dry weekend with spells of warm sunshine. This fair weather is likely to continue for a few days into the following week, but thereafter the outlook becomes more uncertain. The south of the UK will probably be drier, with focus for showers or rainfall tending to be across the north. Temperatures will probably be around normal or a little above for the time of year.
