The figures drew criticism from members of the London Assembly policing committee amid concerns that recent blows to the Met’s standing are actively putting off Londoners from joining. The Yard earlier this year acknowledged that it needs “to do something significantly different” to attract enough applicants to the force, though it has also pointed out that advertising is just one element of its strategy for attracting new recruits.
