The dads said they 'got made to feel bad as parents'
Meta has issued a statement after two Liverpool dads said they were “heartbroken” after they opened Instagram.
The photo was covered by a message which penned: “Sensitive Content. This photo may contain graphic or violent content… images that some people might find upsetting.” The dads believed it was censored because of their sexuality and relationship as two men. Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has now said it was a mistake. A spokesperson told the ECHO: “We apologise as this post was labelled mistakenly and has since been corrected.“
Being a same-sex couple, the two said there wasn’t a “textbook on how to become a parent” and the only option many people informed them of was adoption. The pair decided to pay for private treatment, finding a fertility clinic - which was still classed as providing essential medical treatment - during the pandemic.
“Of course on the most visceral level, this is very offensive to us, in light of explicit political and religious condemnation of our families, and indeed - our very existence, which many of us still experience daily.
