A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Metro light rail train Friday afternoon in South Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The collision happened around 1:45 p.m. near the above-ground Vernon Station, where twin tracks run alongside Long Beach Avenue, according to the Fire Department. The person was walking across the tracks and hit by a southbound Metro A Line train near the station, according to the L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
There were 42 passengers aboard the three-carriage train, according to the LAFD. None were injured. A video posted by the LAFD on X shows a helicopter flying overhead as emergency personnel attend to the scene. Onlookers peer over from beyond yellow police tape.
