Metrolink say they apologise for the 'inconvenience and distress' caused to Zara

Metrolink has apologised to a wheelchair user after a video of her left stranded at a tram stop has gone viral. Content creator Zara Beth posted the clip on Tik Tok to her two million followers about the issues she encountered at the Piccadilly Train Station tram stop.

"And then the first hurdle we get off, the literal lift is out of order. So the big accessible day out in Manchester is off to a great start." Another added: "You going over the tracks stressed me out." While another person said: "You are so brave, because I was literally scared when she was crossing over the track."

"Better disabled access should be prioritised in all areas, and accessibility arrangements such as lifts should always be safety-checked and maintained to ensure they keep working for anybody who needs to use them. If there are closures or re-routing due to maintenance repairs, there should be help available to assist disabled people in navigating and safely getting themselves to their destination, or at the very least have staff members to answer assistance buttons.

"Situations like this remind me why I advocate and share my experiences, and this definitely makes me want to help improve our disabled access in Manchester. Accessibility shouldn't be an afterthought or viewed as a burden, because it gives disabled people access to life.
