The first derby of the season went the way of the visitors at Ibrox
Derby specialist Kyogo struck against Rangers yet again to fire Celtic to a 1-0 victory in the first derby of the season as Brendan Rodgers made a winning return to the fixture to send the champions four points clear of their rivals.
It was a cagey opening quarter of an hour with the home side enjoying most of the possession. But the visitors carved out a great chance that should have sen them draw first blood. Callum McGregor’s brilliant ball sent Liel Abada racing away down the right and he crossed for Kyogo who got in in front of Connor Goldson but Japan start, so deadly in this fixture, couldn’t provide the finish and the danger was cleared.
It was a hammer blow and it could have been worse early in the second half when Goldson’s clearance went straight to Liel Abada and the Israeli’s low shot was tipped round the post by Butland - although no corner was given - which was just enough to take it away from the incoming Daizen Maeda. Gers ref rage There is no doubting the big talking point which arrived on the half hour mark as Rangers had what they thought was the opening goal of the game ruled out. Gustaf Lagerbielke was sloppy in possession with Cyriel Dessers winning the ball off the Swede to set up Kemar Roofe.
