If you are a coffee drinker and enjoy a cup of joe more often than not, Michael Mosley may have some bad news for you if you drink a lot during the day.
A lot of people across the UK can't get going for the day without a cup of coffee, and end up having multiple brews throughout the hours of work.
The creator of the 5:2 and Fast 800 diets has confirmed the maximum amount of coffees that people should be having each day, as it would be better for brain and heart health. The doctor has recommended that three cups of the stuff should be the limit, and cites "one of the biggest studies of health in the UK", which featured half a million people.
Speaking on his Just One Thing podcast, Michael noted coffee has benefits as it is rich in flavanols and antioxidants called polyphenols - which improve heart and brain health, as well as their anti-inflammatory effects too. James said it's worth waiting a few hours before drinking coffee, as having it first thing can worsen your stress hormone, cortisol, which happens when you've had a rough night's sleep.
