Northern Ireland boss believes former Glentoran man has been given a 'big boost' following goal against San Marino
Michael O'Neill believes Conor McMenamin's first goal on the international stage will be a "big boost" for him going forward.
The former Glentoran man had yet to find the net for club or country before Saturday despite some impressive performances, but that all changed two minutes after coming on against San Marino. "He's at that point where he's probably wanting to be finishing a lot more games than what he is finishing at this moment in time because typically that's when you can get those opportunities."Conor has a lot to offer. He's still at an early part , he's come in from the Irish League and it's only October, he's playing international football, he's playing club football, he's playing in a lot of big games.
"He's had to adapt to everything and he's living away from home, so there's a lot there in a short space of time, but he's taken it all in his stride. "I think the goal will help him going back to St Mirren. I know how highly he's thought of there, but it's the one thing they want to see him add to his game."I think he surprised himself that he managed to make control as well as he did because he doesn't use it very often."
