Michelle Yeoh talks about being elected as a member of the International Olympics Committee and the Olympic Refuge Foundation. The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” actor was among eight new members named at the IOC session Oct. 17, 2023, according to the Olympics official website. During a July 26 appearance on TODAY, Yeoh sported a pin to represent the 37 athletes who will compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics as part of the Refugee Olympic Team.
She then commended Thomas Bach, the president of the IOC and chair of the Olympic Refuge Foundation, for his supportive statements about the team. “I think president Thomas Bach was great in saying, ‘You know, it’s of no fault of some athletes that their countries are at war,’” Yeoh said. “And why should they not be given an opportunity to perform and, you know, be part of something that they have been training their entire lives to be good at?” she added.
