Blasting between snow banks with her silver-medallist son Mick at the wheel,It was a memorable, emotional and ultimately successful weekend in Sweden for the Schumacher family, asevent after partnering close friend and F1 mentor Sebastian Vettel in the Nations’ Cup.
It was the first time a Schumacher had contested the final since 2009, when Mick’s father Michael lost to Swedish motorsport legend Mattias Ekstrom. In a poetic twist, it was Ekstrom who edged the famous German family again 14 years later. Following the race, Ekstrom and Schumacher Jr recreated a photo of the Swedish driver carrying Michael on his back. The DTM and rallycross champion added: “I had two finals against Michael when I was here, and it was very emotional to race against Mick.
“I know Michael so well, we had so many great battles. I had so many special moments with Michael and I am sure Mick’s time is ahead of him.” Michael Schumacher was a multi-time winner at the ROC and the weekend was packed with tributes to the seven-time F1 Champion, who has been unable to appear in public since his devastating skiing accident in 2013.
