29% of Liverpool cat owners have yet to microchip their pets
Cat owners who have yet to microchip their furry pals must do so today - or risk being slapped with a hefty fine.
According to a survey of 50 vet practices, carried out by Direct Line in May 2024, 71% of registered cat owners in Liverpool have their pet microchipped. This was in-line with the North West average, where 28% of owners have yet to microchip their cats. Despite this, of the 29% of Liverpool cat owners whose pets are not yet microchipped, 13% told vets they did not plan to comply with the new rules. 47% said their cat was an indoor cat and so did not require a chip; 20% said they were worried the chip would hurt their cat, and 13% said the appointment was too expensive.
“The compulsory microchipping of cats will provide families with much-needed comfort and peace of mind that if their cat gets lost or strays, they can more easily be reunited with their much-loved feline friends.”
