Business Insider reveals that Microsoft is reducing its workforce across several departments, including security, sales, and gaming. While the exact number of jobs eliminated remains undisclosed, Microsoft confirmed to Business Insider that the layoffs were limited in scope. Notably, these job cuts are distinct from the performance-based layoffs that occurred last week.
Reports indicate that Microsoft has made unspecified cuts across its security, experiences and devices, sales, and gaming divisions. A Microsoft spokesperson stated to Business Insider that the layoffs were relatively small but declined to provide a specific figure. These recent layoffs are separate from the performance-based job cuts that took place last week. 2024 has been a particularly challenging year for the gaming industry, characterized by frequent job cuts and studio closures. Last year alone, Microsoft implemented multiple rounds of layoffs within its gaming division, totaling over 2,500 employees. In January, Microsoft announced the reduction of 1,900 jobs across Xbox Game Studios, Activision Blizzard, and ZeniMax. Further job losses followed in September, with 650 positions eliminated across Microsoft Gaming.
