Microsoft has announced more layoffs for Xbox employees. Around 650 roles are being eliminated, months after Microsoft made big cuts following its Activision deal.
Microsoft is laying off around 650 employees in its gaming division today. The latest cuts come months after Microsoft laid off 1,900 Activision Blizzard and Xbox employees, and after the closure of several game studios, including Redfall developer Arkane Austin. Xbox chief Phil Spencer announced the layoffs to employees in an internal memo this morning, seen by The Verge.
As part of aligning our post-acquisition team structure and managing our business, we have made the decision to eliminate approximately 650 roles across Microsoft Gaming — mostly corporate and supporting functions — to organize our business for long term success. > I know that this is difficult news to hear. We are deeply grateful for the contributions of our colleagues who are learning they are impacted.
