Joe Biden has said a hostage deal between Hamas and Israel is 'very close' - but censored Benjamin Netanyahu for failing to secure agreement yet. The Israeli PM is under intense pressure at home, with mass protests and a general strike after the killings of six hostages in Gaza.
Joe Biden's remarks that Benjamin Netanyahu is 'not doing enough' to broker a hostage deal with Hamas are 'significant', our US correspondent James Matthews says. Before this weekend – and the news of six hostages found murdered – the deal was being offered as 'take it or leave it' one. But Matthews adds: 'Clearly that has been hardened by what we have seen.'But that's the challenge for Biden right now.
