Middlesbrough are ahead of Leeds United in the pursuit of signing Louie Barry on loan from Aston Villa. Villa may recall Barry from his current loan at Stockport County. With Leeds well-stocked at forward positions, Barry's potential move depends on the playing time he'd receive.
Middlesbrough are leading the race to sign Louie Barry on loan from Aston Villa in January. Villa are considering recalling the 21-year-old, who is currently on loan with Stockport County, in the new year. Sources say most of the Championship is likely to come in for Barry, who has been in red-hot form in League One so far this term. The Whites are already stocked with top forward options, including Joel Piroe, Wilfried Gnonto, Patrick Bamford, Manor Solomon and Mateo Joseph.
It is believed game time would be a concern for Villa if they were to send Barry to Elland Road as part of their promotion charge. The 21-year-old has already hit 15 goals and notched one assist in 21 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2024-25 campaign. Barry, formerly of Barcelona, hit nine goals in 20 League Two games last term as Stockport were promoted to the third tier. The versatile forward has primarily played on the left side this term but can also play as a centre-forward and in attacking midfield. He has only played one senior game for Aston Villa and crowned his debut with a goal in the FA Cup against Liverpool in 2021
