Usually a half hour is enough time to let the feeling subside so that she can return to work. “If I try to fight it, it will only exacerbate the migraine, and I’ll be out of commission the whole day,” Susan says. “When it comes to your health, give yourself what you need, and you’ll save valuable time in the long run.”For Marla White, 58, bright light can trigger significant migraine pain. She has a few strategies for managing her exposure, whether she’s inside or out. “I keep my office slightly darker than the rest of the house,” she says.
Beyond accepting that some days you simply may not feel your greatest, one way to manage the cognitive effects of migraine is by saving some easier work for times when you’re not feeling 100%. “I try to keep a ‘brain fog task’ on the back burner to do on days that I’m mentally not at my best,” Lindsay says.Lots of people with migraine swear it helps keep attacks at bay.
