Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has revealed that he nearly joined Liverpool before making the switch to Old Trafford in 1999. The Frenchman admits that while Liverpool did make a formal offer, it wasn't attractive enough for him at the time as he was enjoying his time at Inter Milan.
Spending nine years at Manchester United , former centre-back Mikael Silvestre averaged one trophy almost every 12 months.
He scored either side of half-time to help Sir Alex Ferguson's side put the brakes on a run of three consecutive Premier League draws. Not too surprisingly, it was the only time Silvestre scored twice in a game during his nine-year spell in M16. He continued: "A few days later, when I received a call from Sir Alex there was no hesitation. Sir Alex was a different matter for me.
After finalising his move to United on Friday, September 10, the defender was eligible to make his debut the following day. In a script that could not have been written any better, it was a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool that was United's challenge that weekend.
